AUCKLAND WINTER SHOW

RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED.

OPENING DAY WEDNESDAY,

ANOTHER INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

11l keeping with the spirit of the times as far as progress is concerned, this year's Auckland Winter Exhibition promises to be no exception to the rul<». Right throughout the Auckland province all shows and exhibitions which have been held have shown remarkable increases in exhibits as well as attendances. As far as the former is concerned, the entries for all classes at the Auckland Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition show a marked increase. And it is safe to predict that with the running of cheap excursion trains to the city the attendance should be a record. Primary and Secondary Industries. Realising that the primary and secondary industries of this country go hand in hand some years ago the Auck land A. and P. Society and the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association joined forces, the purpose being to hold a joint Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition. Success has attended the venture in no uncertain manner. Therefore on Wednesday of this week at 2 p.m., the public will be welcomed to the extensive buildings on the Prince's wharf to see the wealth of primary and secondary production, which- the Auckland province is capable of producing.

Several weeks ago all the available space was booked up, and a visit to the buildings this morning showed that preparations for the opening day were well forward. Some of this Year's Features. A feature this year will be the four district courts. In this connection it is worthy of mention that Pukekohe, Te Kuiti, Thames and Te Aroha are outbidding each other in the matter of displays.

From the King Country townships and district will come some of the best of root-crops. At a preliminary show of the district's wealth of production held in Te Kuiti last week, many Canterbury farmers, who were present at the North Island sheep dog trials, expressed astonishment at the quality of the exhibits. Keen Dairying Competition. The 1920 Auckland Winter Exhibition will be outstanding as far as dairying competitions are concerned. The entries exceed those of last year by 129, and they come from all parts of the Dominion. In 1925 the world's championship butter competition was held, and seeing that the entries this year have eclipsed all records it speaks well for the popularity of the 1926 fixture.

Increases in entries in the home industries and flax exhibits have also taken place. As for the entries of root crops generally, however, the size and number have been disappointing. When a reason, for this was sought Mr. A. D. Stanley, tlie managing secretary, said it was paly to be: expected as Auckland was not, an agricultural centre such as Whangarei, Rotorua, Hamilton,-or Te Kiiiti. Trades and School Displays. Trade displays are on a much greater scale than in previous years and there will be numerous working models on view. The schools competitions are well up to standard and some thousands of entries have been received. One of the attractions will be the aquarium irom the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. Another feature will be the electric lighting of the whole exhibition, special arrangements for. which have been taken in hand by the Auckland Electric Power Board. Both in the daytime and at night the buildings will be a blaze of light.

There will be plenty of amusement for young and old. During the afternoons and early evenings picture programmes will be shown. These will be followed by concerts and fancy and Scotch dances. Tea rooms have also been established within the buildings.

There will be no official opening this year, but the show will be open to the public from AVednesday, June 9, till Saturday, June 19.
