WEST END CLUB. ' . : LAIDLAW CUP. A single sculling race, virtually for the club championship, as the contestants started from scratch, was decided at the clubhouse, St. Mary's Bay, on Saturday. The race was for a cup to be won outright, donated by Mr. R. A. Laidlaw, vicepresident, and was won by Mr. W. N Bright. In the first heat W. N. Bright and A. C. Norden met, and from an even start the competitors went off at a fast stroke and were well matched. Nearing the finish' Norden had the misfortune to foul a buoy' and Bright went on to win by two lengths'. The second heat was between O. Felton and J. R. Skinner. Prom a good start Skinner quickly assumed the lead, and for three-quarters of the course led by half a length. Passing the wharf Pelton sprinted strongly and overtook Skinner, to win by one length and a-half. Final: W. N Bricht beat O. Felton.
