DRAINAGE BOARD.
c TOUR OF INSPECTION. A special meeting of the Works Committee of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board was held this morning, . ifhen a tour of inspection in connection ' with works in progress and others projected at the upper end of Arch Hill gully were visitei The- Newton Schools' Committep requested assistance in connection with the proposition to construct a culvert orer the water-course which at present runs through the playground. This water-way takes up much valuable space, and it is urged that the bridging of it will certainly make a first-class playing area. Mr. W. F. Brinsden, who is a member of both the board and school committee, was present and explained' the position, in which he made a plea to the Drainage Board to help the- - schools who were badly in need of assistance. Messrs. W. Stevenson and Son's tender of £12,751 for the construction of Branch sewer No. lb was accepted by the board last week, and operations were commenced immediately. The committee also visited the commencing point of the contract in Green Lane, where Mr. M. J. Bennett, chairman of the committee, turned the first sod and thus declared work on the contract to have commenced.
