POST AND TELEGRAPH.
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE. GROWTH OF DEPARTMENT. (By Telegraph.— Praia Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Postmaster-General, Hon. W. Nosworthy, announced to-night that the revenue of the Post and Telegraph Department in the past year was £3,100*,000, as against £2,889,450 in the previous year. Notwithstanding an increase of £60,000 in salaries, the total expenditure was £9000 less than that for the previous year. The excess of revenue over expenditure was £672,000. The Minister emphasised the ramifications of the Department, which included last year motor registration and census and electoral work. A total of 132,811 motors were registered, and £354,500 collected. This demonstrated as never before the Department's elasticity and efficiency, which the Government appreciated. The Minister added that about £48,000,000 were invested in the Post Office Savings Bank.
