OHINEMURI LICENSES.
DECISIONS DEFERRED. PREMISES TO BE INSPECTED. PREFERENCE QUESTION RAISED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. Among the further applications which came before the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee yesterday was one from Catherine Vincent Crosby, of Paeroa, for a license for a proposed house to be known as the Royal Mail. Mr. G. P. Findlay appeared for the applicant. Consideration was deferred pending completion of the building. The committee stated that if possible it would at a later date give an indication that would enable the applicant to carry on with the building with a reasonable margin of safety to her financial arrangements. Lewis Emanuel Cassrels, of Paeroa, trustee for the estate of the late Asher Cassrels, owner of the Criterion Hotel when no-license was carried, applied for a license. In support he stated that he was one of the oldest licensees in Ohinemuri. Since 1919 the place had been carried on as a boarding house, which was recognised by the Commercial Travellers' Association, the Public Service Association, and the Auckland Automobile Association. The house was in good order and costly renovations and repairs were in course of being carried out. This application was deferred pending completion of the alterations. In all the other applications decision was deferred. That for the Karangahake Hotel was withdrawn, a certificate of fitness not being available. The committee to-day will hear legal argument about preference of applications, after which the Waitoa application—against the granting of which a large memorial has been lodged—will be taken. No application will be granted pending completion of buildings. The committee is to inspect these this week, after which it is probable it will give an indication as to the likelihood of the applications succeeding. a (Proceeding.)
