STEAMERS IN TROUBLE.
THE EASTERN MOON. AND THE WONGANELIA. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDXEY, this day. Besides the steamer Eastern Moon, which broke down and is adrift, the steamer Wonganella, bound from Ocean Island to Melbourne with sixteen passengers, including women, as well as a full cargo of phosphates, is reported to be in trouble in the Tasman Sea, her tail shaft having broken one hundred and twenty miles east of Cape Moreton. Arrangements have been made to send a tug from Brisbane to tow the vessel to Sydney. — (A. and N.Z.) The Eastern Moon was yesterday reported to be still drifting and a steamer was sent to tow her to poft, and it was thought it would be a lengthy job. Built in 1919 at Kobe, Japan, the Eastern Moon is a single screw steamer of 5716 tons gross. She is owned by the United States Shipping Board. The Wonganella* is a single screw steamer of 3908 tons gross. She was built at Sunderland in 1904, and is at present owned by W. Crosby and Son. This steamer was last at Auckland in September.
