MOTOR CARS DISAPPEAR
THREE MORE LAST NIGHT. I TWO NOW RECOVERED. DAMAGED RUNNING BOARD. The epidemic of stealing motor cars for the purpose of "joy-riding" is still jat its height. Last evening three more j cars were taken. A Chevrolet car, the property of Mr. '' Arthur Ripley, was missed from Upper Queen Street at about half past nine. An hour later a constable found it abandoned in a city street. ! A Dodge car, the property of Mr. T. Clench, was removed from Elliott Street between eight and nine o'clock. It was this morning found in Park Road with ; the running board slightly damaged. ! The third car, which has not yet been | recovered, is a Chevrolet owned by Mr. G. C. Coutts, of Bell Road, Remuera, and was removed from near Grafton Bridge shortly after seven o'clock. A locked switch was overcome by the I thieves tampering with the wiring. This ; car was also stolen last September. j Owners Offer Reward. Several members of the council of ! the Auckland Automobile Association ; expressed concern last evening at the j prevalence of motor stealing. Mr. H. C. i Jones drew attention to the fact that i over 40 cars had been taken since the I commencement of the year, and that ; very few of the culprits had been appre- ,! bended. I On the motion of Mr. Jones and | seconded by Mr. Farrell, it was unanij mously decided that the association ! should offer a reward of £3 for information leading to the conviction of any person unlawfully using a car belongI ing to a member of the association.
