STORM DAMAGE.

A MARLBOROUGH GALE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. A cyclonic gale swept Marlborough yesterday afternoon. In Blenheim, the weather vane on the post office was dislodged and it was feared jt would fall into the street, which was roped off to protect traffic. Several fences were also blown down. Reports from country districts now coming in indicate fairly severe damage, trees being uprooted and sheds demolished in all directions. The storm appears to have been particularly severe in the Pclorous district. Telephonic communication with various parts of the district is interrupted. FLOOD AT GREYMOUTH. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) GREYMOUTH, this day. The flood last night carried away another pier of the Ngahere-Blackball rail and traffic bridge, also one of the newly constructed piers being erected to replace the damage done by the previous flood. A pile-driver, gantry, derrick and other gear were washed away. The flood prevents the use of the ferry boat and the Railway Department is running a cage across the gap for passengers, mails and parcels. DAMAGE TO ROADS. Serious slips occurred on the MotuOpotiki Road, blocking traffic since Tuesday. A large gang of men arc at work and it is hoped to havet he road open tomorrow. Telephone lines are also down.
