ENGrINEDRIVERB' STRIKE. THE DEADLOCK CONTINUES. (Received 11.30 a.m.? SYDNEY, this day. An aggregate meeting of enginedrivers at Weston and Cessnock rejected the owners' stipulation that the men must return to work before settlement proposals can be considered. Officials of the Miners' Federation were summoned to a special meeting of the Council of the Federation, at which there will be delegates from all parts of the Commonwealth to consider the enginedrivers' strike. It is estimated if the strike is prolonged that the miners and operatives will lose £150,000 in wages weekly. — (A. and N.Z.) "SAVE THE FRANC." FRIENDSHIP AND BUSINESS. (Received 10 a.m.) MONTREAL, May 12. It was announced to-day that a '"Save the Franc" fund in aid of the French financial situation is to be started in Montreal. A committee headed by Sir Lomer Gouin, ex-Premier of Quebec, bases the appeal on gratitude for France's "heroic efforts" and on the practical grounds that the stabilisation of French credit would result in business advantages to Canada.—(A. and N.Z.)
