A.R.U. EXECUTIVE.

SCHOOLS AND FOOTBALLS. MAORI MATCH FOR AUCKLAND. At the weekly meeting of the A.R.U. Executive last night, Mr. Harry Frost presiding, a request was received from the Auckland Hockey Association that July 3 and 10, the date 3on which the Indian Army hockey team would be playing in Auckland, be kept as clear as possible of important Rugby coun-ter-attractions. The matter was deferred until later in the season, and referred to the match committee.

The Primary Schools' Association intimated that this year there would be at least 78 school teams playing the game, while in all about 1840 boyß playing the game. The association intimated that some of the schools were putting in three teams, where they formerly had two, and, in such case, they would like more than one ball per school.

Mr. Potter stated that last year 40 schools had two or more teams, and this year there were 56 such schools. He thought it would be a fair thing that each school with more than two teams should get an extra ball.

The Chairman: That would mean an increase of £10 in the vote.

Mr. Gray: The money could not be better spent.

On the motion of Mr. Kronfeld it was decided to grant an extra ball to all schools entering more than two teams in the competitions.

The .Ellerslie Club made an application for the loan of £100 for the purpost of erecting a training shed, for which purpose the club already has £iOO in hand. The application was supported by a deputation, plans, etc., being submitted. After the question had been favourably discussed by the members, the application was referred to a sub-committee of the chairman, Mr. Belcher, and the honorary solicitor, for report after investigation. The chairman reported on the annual meeting of delegates at Wellington, touching in detail on the matters already reported. He mentioned that there was every prospect of Auckland getting a match against the Maori team about the .middle of July, prior to the team leaving for France, and there also was a possibility of the New Zealand team playing in Auckland either before leaving for Australia, or on their return. In Wellington, he had found that the New Zealand Union was hoping for a visit next year from a French team, but it was by no means assured. Touching on local matters, the chairman mentioned that final satisfactory arrangements had been made with regard to the Thames loan.

The committee decided to nominate Mr. K. Ifwersen for a place on the North Island Selection Committee.

Applications by A. J. Peters (Marists) and D. N. McGregor Rifles) for re-grading from senior to junior were granted. The Junior Advisory Board reported that the following selectors had been appointed: First juniors.— Messrs. Cooper, Cleal and Wakerley. Third open.—Messrs. Sparks. Hoaxe And Captain Redmond. Third intermediate. — Messrs. Williams, Corson and Thompson. On the application of Training College Club, because of the College being in vacation, it was decided to postpone the senior B division match, Training College v. North Shore, on May 22.
