HAMILTON'S POPULATION

MORE FEMALES THAN MALES,

(Fy Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. > HAMILTON, this day. The Hamilton census has now been completed and shows the total population of the borough to be 13,994, an increase of 2555 since last census was taken in 1921, when the total figures were given at 11,439. In 1921 the population consisted of 5745 males and 5694 females, showing a predominance of males of 51. The latest figures have, however, reversed the position, and now show a surplus of females to the number of 444, the precise figures being: Males 6775, and females 7219, exclusive of Maoris. There are 29 Maoris resident in the town, 12 males and 17 females. The returns also disclose that there are 124 empty houses in the borough, 34 of these being at Claudelands, 9 at Frankton, 25 in Hamilton Central, -24 in Hamilton East, and 32 in Hamilton West. The occupied houses total 3160.
