DAIRY CONTROL
ONE PRODUCER—ONE VOTE. A meeting- held in ttie Masonic Hall. Te Aroba on Monday, for the purpose of considering the system of election for the Dairy Control Board was attended by between 60 and 70 farmers. Mr. Rlackman pointed out that in view of the contentious nature of the question to be discussed, it was desirable that they should have a disinterested and impartial chairman. Mr. R. Coulter (Mayor of Te Aroha) was then asked to take the chair. Mr. Dowden, one of the convenors of the meeting, said it was only by having a vote in the Control Board election that they could have any say in the handling of their produce. The object of the meeting was to pass a resolution in favour of one producer, one vote. The votes or the producers may not be necessary in the safeguarding or their Interests to-day, but the day may come when they would be necessary. If the board was to be elected on the tonnage basis the producers would not be able to ask the why or wherefore of any action or the board Mr. Dowden then moved: "That this meeting of Te Aroha dairy farmers emphatically declares itself in favour of the Dairy <Control Board being elected on the basis of one producer one vote, and a single ward system of representation on the Individual or produrer basis a3 against the butteiTat basis." Mr. Shailue seconded. A very lengthy discussion ensued. The resolution was finally carried unanimou-ly. Copies of the resolution are to be forwarded to the Prime Minister, and to Mr. Vcitch, M.P., of Wanganul.
