SAILORS AND SHIPOWNERS.
NEVER ENDING QUARREL.
DISUNITED UNIONS
(Received 2 p.m.)
MELBOURNE, this day
Representatives of the Commonwealth Steamship Owner?/ Association called at the Commonwealth Arbitration Court offices and lodged objections to the registration of the New Seamen's Union of Australasia, application for the registration of which was lodged by Walsh as general president and Raeburn as general secretary several weeks ago.
The contention of the association is that the application for registration of the new union is equivalent to an application for the registration of the old union which was deregistered last year. The real reason for the union's application, it is stated, is to strengthen the legal position of one of the two rival factions among the officers of the union, the registration of which was cancelled in order that some of the officers, who are not joining in this application, may be excluded from any lawful participation in affairs of the union or branch of the union.—(A. and N.Z.)
