THE QUESTION OF TARIFF.
AN OTTAWA DEMONSTRATION.

OTTAWA, April 23.
Upwards of 3000 people poured into the capital on Friday morning from Oshawa and other Ontario cities and municipalities by special trains to urge upon the Federal Government that the Customs tariff on motor vehicles be not reduced as proposed in the Budget brought down last week.
A meeting was held in the largest theatre in the city to organise a march to Parliament House with a memorial for presentation to the Premier stating "that the sudden drastic and unexpected proposal" to reduce the duty on automobiles has caused "feelings of the gravest concern."
While the details of the parade were. being outlined, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance unexpectedly walked on to the stage. The appearance of Mr. Mackenzie King (Premier), who made a short speech; stopped the demonstration of disapproval when Mr. Robb (Minister of Finance), after explaining that the Government would be glad to consider any arguments that might be presented, issued a warning note. Mr. Robb said: "We intend to stand by our guns and leave it as it is now as- far as I am concerneds"—(A. and N.Z;)
