INTER-HOUSE CHALLENGE CUP. WON BY MILNE AND CHOYCE. The advent of the members of the Tarlous Boft goods .firms of the city Into Interhouse competition ln various' branches of sport has proved most successful, and yesterday afternoon rowing was added to the programme, when the first annual race was rowed over a harbour course, for a cup presented by Mr. A. Court. The event was a decided success and rowing should be (irmly established on the interhouse sports programme. One crew's supporters followed the race in a launch, while the others filled all points of Vantage on the King's and Queen's wharves. Tho fresh northerly breeze made the water lively over the course from the eastern tide deflector to the Queen's wharf, and with the tide on the ,ebb the new aspirants to rowing experienced a stiff row for their first race. The ■ officials were :—Judge, Mr. W. Mason; starter, Mr. C. H. Hunt; both officials of the Auckland Rf-ving Association. The crews were:—John Court, Ltd.: R. Follas (str.), W. O'Driscoll (3), C. Bertrand (2), J. McPhail (bow), Seagar (cox.) ; Milne and Choyee, Ltd. *. V. G. Smith (str), J. T. McCorkindale (3), T. McCarthy (2), W. i\ Swan (bow), T. Organ (cox.) ; Hugh Wright: H. P. Cullen (str), W. D. Fulton (3), A. Williams (2), A. Moore (bow), C. Power (cox.). Just after four o'clock, and without delay, the .starter dispatched the crews to a good start, tbe crews striking about 32 to the minute. Hugh Wright's, on the outside, quickly took the lead, but at the end of a hundred yards the No. 3 came off his seat, and Milne and Choyce's shot ahead to lead John Court's by. a canvas. The leaders now lengthened out at 28 to the minute, with a good swing, and drew further ahead, and three parts of the way to the King's wharf, John Court's-, rowing a much shorter stroke, Spurted and closed up. Their supI porters' hopes were only temporarily raised, for Milne and Choyee threw on extra weight and on passing the King's wharf held a lead of one and a-half lengths. Half-way between the wharves, John Court's and Hugh Wright's made a final effort, but Milne and Choyce's responded and steadily increasing their lead, won by about two and a-half lengths from Jobn Court's who beat Hugh Wright's by two lengths.
