ONETANGI REGATTA

The regatta promoted by the residents of Onetangi, Waiheke, and adjacent bays, was held at Onetangi during the Easter holidays. There was a good sailing breeze from the south-west, which gave good shelter in the bay, and the races were keenly contested.

The following are the results:— General Handicap, all claßSes.—Millicent 1, Wild Wave 2, Mowai 3. Seven boats started.

General Handicap, X, T and V Classes.— Mizpah 1, Sea Dawn 2.

Launch Race.—Muzzleton .1. The prizes were distributed at a social and dance held on Saturday evening. The regatta was inaugurated by Mrs. Ruby Watson, of St. Heller's Bay.

CARNIVAL IN AID OF HOSPITAL

Favoured . with ideal weather, the Mercury Bay Hospital Carnival Regatta, held ou Easter Saturday at Whklanga, was a most successful function. , the scene at the local wharf was one of great animation, and as the various launches and yachts manoeuvred round the starting point they added greatly to the natural beauty of the bay and called forth expressions of admiration on all sides. Visiting yachts and launches from Tauranga, Tairua and Auckland made the racing events very interesting. One of the best races of the day was tile lirst*class launch race, won by the Auckland launch Pai o" Mine, the speed of the winner being a revelation to most of the onlookers. Another event of Interest was the race for the Tairua onedesign sailing boats, eight boats coming from Tairua for this race, which was won. after a Hue exhibition of seamanship, by Mr. P. Carter, of Tauranga, who sailed tlie local boat, Scout. Cnnoe races, dinghy races nnd other events nil added lo the enjoyment of the day, and the regatta committee is to be congratulated on an excellent function. The financial results of the regatta will show a considerable net profit ln old of the local hospital. The following are the results: — First-class Yacht Race.—Matua 1, Janet All Comers' Launch Race. —Bulldog 1, Severn 2. Second-class Launch Race.—lris 1, Vanita 2, Canoe Race (boys under 13 years).— R. MeCabe 1, H. MeCabe 2. 12ft One-design Sailing Boats.—Scout 1, Ngaire 2. Canoe Race (boys).—R. Chadban 1, E. Lee 2. First-class Launch Race.—Pal o' Mine 1, Rewa 2. Outboard Motors.—Swan 1, Nonesuch 2. Open Dinghy Race.—W. Turner 1, R. Hovell 2. Men's Pair Oar.—H. Robinson 1, W. Turner 2, Dinghy Race (boys).—R. Bennett 1, J. MeCabe 2. Boys' Double Sculls.—R. Bennett and J. MeCabe 1. TAKAPUNA BOATING CLUB. The annual regatta of the Takapuna Boating Club* will be held at Bays Water on Saturday. There will be events for all classes from H to Z. also cruising and speed launches. Entries close this evening.
