BANKS AND INSURANCE WANTED. SEVERAL ADVANCES RECORDED. Although several lines of investment shares improved in price on Change this week, still the volume of business was not up to the standard of a month ago. Bank and insurance shares had most attention during the past week, and in some instances slight advances in price were registered. Bank of New Zealand shares sold at from 59/ to 59/9; Union Bank of Australia shares firmed from sales at £11 17/6 to £14 18/6. Buyers came in for Australasian Bank of Commerce shares nt 31/. and sales took place of Bank of New South Wale 3at £44, while Batik of Australasia changed hands at £14 7/6. Sales also occurred of National Bank of New Zealand shares at £6 14/6. South Britisli Insurance shares had sales at 56/10 to 57/; New Zealand Insurance had regular demand at 38/6, but latterly sellers have not quoted; National Insurance firmed to buyers at 78/9, and for Standards 49/ is regularly offered. Inquiry set in yesterday afternoon for Goldsbroiigh Mort shares at 47/0, but the offer of a line at threepence above that figure did not lead to business. New Zealand River Plate shares are better, buyers now offering 22/3; N.Z. Loan and Mercantile preference issue firmed this week, buyers advancing from £77 to £78. For the* ordinary stock £93 10/ is offered, but holders ask £90: Colonial Sugar Refining shares could be got for £54, but latterly buyers have not quoted. New Zealand Breweries' shares were placed at 55/, and the debenture stock changed hands at 25/10 aud 25/11; Wilsons Cement are not quite so firmly held, sales being made at 36/. At the third call yesterday, holders asked an extra threepence, but buyers stopped at 35/6. A transaction occurred in shares in Donagby's Rope and Twine Company at 34/, and Northern Steam paid issue were transferred at 15/4. The contributing issue are now offered at 7/4; Huddart Parker Steam could be placed at 46/, and inquiry is made for P. and O. deferred stock at £225, but latterly sellers have not quoted for this line. A little business was done in Auckland Gas. this week at 22/5 and 22/4. while the contributing issue changed hands at S/. Sales oi Sanford shares took place at 20/6, and Kaiapoi Woollen were transferred at 10/1. Buyers of Wellington Woollen, both issues advanced their offers to £6, without sellers being disclosed. Taranaki Oil shares sold as low as IS/0 this week, and Kawaraus after selling at 0/1 to 6/ were offered at 5/10 yesterday afternoon. Sales of Waihi shares took place at 23/3. The news that the new Waiotahi had cut the reef caused those shares to change hands at sixpence. Auckland Harbour Board four per cent debentures sold at £84 10/. and a fewsales were made.
