CADETS AT TRENTHAM.

BATTLE PRACTICE. PRAISE FOR NORTHERN TEAM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TRENTHAM, this day. Cadets forming teams from each of the three military commands completed their battle practice competition today. The boys showed great keenness in' their work, which was judged on hits on the enemy, fire direction, fire control, and discipline. The idea was that aeroplanes had reported the advance of an enemy force which made its appearance in various formations at different points along the front, machine guns participating in the attack, culminating in a portion of the enemy making an assault on the defenders under cover of gas. Moving miniature targets represented men and machine guns, all increasing in size as they drew nearer- Finally thsre was an explosion of a pseudo-gas bomb, and the sudden appearance of life-size figures just in front of the parapet, the whole being very realistic. The cadets all showed a good knowledge of their parts, and General Young, who was present, congratulated the boys, making special reference to the Northern team's commander, Company-Sergeant-Major Favelle, whose control over his team was remarkable. The result was:—Southern Command, hits 388, points for fire direction, etc., 28; Northern Command, 253 and 44; Central Command, 253 and 20. Northern's control score, 44 points out of 50, wae especially good.
