In the event of Mr. Monteith being appointed, and his new duties taking him away from Wellington to such an extent that he will be unable to attend to his duties as a city councillor, he may resign from the council. There ia some talk in Labour circles that Mr. C. H. Chapman, who unsuccessfully contested the mayoralty at the last municipal election, and who was formerly on the City Council, may _he selected to contest the vacancy which will be created if Mr. Monteith resigns.
