WATER SUPPLY.
THE INCREASING DEMAND. Reporting to the City Council last night, the waterworks superintendent stated that owing to the increasing demand for water in different parts of the city it was necessary to make provision for the laying of new and larger mains. The districts mostly affected were Point Chevalier and the high levels of Parnell and the western areas of Grey Lynn and Epsom. He estimated the work to cost £10,000, and suggested that authority be granted for the calling of tenders for material, as it was necessary for the work to be carried out this year. The council adopted the superintendent's report. The average daily water consumption was reported to be 7,847,000 gallons.
