"HARD TIMES" PROTEST.
BY FRENCH TAXPAYERS. NOVEL DEMONSTRATION. PARIS, February 27.
The winegrowers of Moselle object to the new special tax of 22 per cent. This they say had been super-imposed on general hard times and has caused a. heavy diminution in wine drinking.
| Several thous;ud growers assembled lat Berncastel for a novel plan of camj paign. Without a word being uttered they formed a huge funeral procession and marched with mournful expressions to the Foreign Office. There they strode through the door and pitched out the contents of every room, including the typewriters' and carpets, and made a huge heap of them in the street. They then adjourned to a convenient square where they voiced their protest.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
