RACING NEWS.

STABLE AND TRACK GOSSIP. (By WHALEBONE.) Curragliniore is stated to have run a good race at Wanganui on Thursday. Allegiance is to be retired from the race track, and is to take up duty as a station sire. Royal Tea is to have his. first race in Sydney at Eosehill on March 20. This will be in a six furlong two-year-old event. Civility was making her first appearance in her -new owner's colours at AVanganui last Thursday, but did not get a good run. It is understood that a Sydney sportsman has asked the owner of Te Karere to put a price on him. He is a brother to Yonia and Pouma. Sir Wai is to make his appearance at the Woodville meeting after a lengthy spell. He is said to be on the big side but he is quite sound. Mr. E. W. Alison, junior, intends to visit Sydney for the autumn yearling sales. ' Some seasons back he purchased Cawnpore there. Many Colours never looked like a - winner at Wanganui on Thursday, the weight, 12.3, being enough to stop better than him over hurdle's. Clarinda appears to have run well for a mile and a-half in the Wanganui Cup, being the pilot for that distance. Her turn should come shortly. Mr. C. F. Yallanee usually has a fairly good string of jumpers during the .winter, and this season Merry Singer, j Little River, Mahura and Mountain Mist !will probably carry his colours. Miss Melva (J. Preston) went a round j over the schooling hurdles at Elleralie j this morning, and jumped very well. ! Archibald was also schooled over hurdles, and also performed nicely. Tanadice was ridden by R.- Reed at Wanganui on Thursday, and it is stated that if he had been on White Fang, ; which was' only beaten by a neck by ■Tanadice, White Fang would probably have -won. Diogenes, which has finished his career as a hack, is enjoying a spell arid will not race again until the autumn. His owner considers that as he is only a three-year-old and a big growing colt, he ■will be improved,by the respite. Great Day, a three-year-old gelding by Day Comet, came from a long way back in the Maiden race at Wanganui on Thursday, and finished third. He should be seen to better advantage before long. Great Day is trained by W. Dwyer at Wanganui. Raukura, which, contested the Juvenile Handicap at Wanganui on Thursday, is a filly by Absurd—lßnepango, and is ! owned by Mr. R. Grace, who has Shining Armour. She is trained by F Tilley at Fordell, and was making hei first appearance. She is reported tc have run very creditably. Queen Balboa stumbled when making; her final effort in the Abbotsford Weltei at Dunedin, and this cost her a gooc chance of a second win at the meeting The going was cutting up a good dea towards the close of the meeting, anc ■will require a lot of attention to brine . it back to a good safe surface. The Banker has been entered ior somi of the principal events to be decided ai the V.R.C. autumn meeting. He has beer engaged in the King's' Plate, run ovei two miles, at weight-for-age, when hi can meet Pilliewinkie, Heroic, Manfred Spearfelt, Lilypond, The Night Patrol Whittier and several other gooi performers. ' R. McTavlsli will Tide Uralla, King field, Pegaway, Plying Juliet and KinPot at the Te Aroha meeting. C McCarthy will be -on Harvest Day Marble Mount and Mosaic. TV. Rennii ■will pilot either Prince Rufus or Petei Maxwell, which ever is started in th :>urdles on the first day. E. Stanwa; -will be on West Abbey. San Fera, which, finished third in tb Westmere Hurdles at Wanganui oi Thursday, is stated to have been poorl- . handled, for he was taken to the -fron •in the first mile, when he was concedinj .two stone to Comedy Prince, and 31 !more than that to Mountain Bell, botl .of which finished in front of him. Mor judiciously ridden, lie should be seen t better advantage before long. \ The scales at New Plymouth (says Southern writer) were tampered witl delaying the , start of the first race ove lalf an hour. A piece of lead was dis covered above some pf the mechanism It had either been placed there by acci dent or design. As. however, it had th' effect of causing riders to carry. abou 81b over, it was probably merely a mis ehievous act. The Hazlett Memorial Plate m established in 1914 arid since then ha been won by two. imported horses ii Panmure and Glentruin' (says "Senti nel.") Until 1918 is was run over sevei furlongs, and has since the.n been decidec over an eight furlong course. This give! a horse every ohanoe there is over 1 straight half-mile from, the barrier tc the first turn on the track. Some o. the best horses ever raced in the Domi nion have linked their names in its winning record, and it is a noteworthy faei that it- has never yet been won twi« by the same owner. Such a state 0: affairs naturally tends to create a wide spread interest in the race, as quite a number of classic events decided in th< Dominion have been won year after yeai by the same stable. The Franklin Racing Club will 'hold • t lr / meetin S at Pukekohe on Saturday, March 27, and. an excellent programme has been arranged.
