JANUARY WEATHER.
RAINFALL FAIRLY HEAVY.
TOTAL OF 4.04 INCHES.
Boisterous weather was experienced at Auckland during the week-end, and several heavy showers yesterday afternoon and last evening further augmented the rainfall for the month, the result being that the total fall was increased to a figure considerably above the January average.
Observations made at the Albert Park Observatory by the Govprrmieut weather ohserver (Captain D. McLeay) show that the weather was cenerally fine, with a large amount of sunshine during the early days of the month. Strong north-easterly gales caused considerable damage to property on January 21 and 22, boat owners having a particularly anxious time. Rain fell on twelve days, making the total fall for the month 4.04 inches. The latter figure is considerably in excess of the January average of 2.83 inches. The maximum fail for any twenty-four hours occurred on January 12. when 1.06 inches were registered. Bright sunshine was registered on every day of the month with one exception, the total amount being 242 hours •5 minutes. The average temperature in the shade for the month was 66.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Anniversary Day," when the temperature reached 78 degrees, was the hottest day of the month. .
