"A WICKED THING."
BOY GIVES FALSE ALARM. FIXED £5. ■ Quite a big boy came before Mr. F. K. ! Hunt, :S.M., at the Juvenile Court this ! morning on a charge of giving a false i fire alarm to the Parnell brigade. ! The police stated that both City and ! Parnell brigades turned out. ; The boy pleaded guilty. His father : said that his son did not know what he I was doing. I "What's that?" exclaimed Mr. Hunt. i A boy his size not knowing what he had ; done! Is he an imbecile, or what? I The parent: Oh, no, sir. l Mr. Hunt: No. of course: I have a good I report about him and also about you. He j knew what he was doing all right. This ! will cost you £5, anyway. Can you pay it. The father: I suppose I will have to. Mr. Hunt: Of course you will. It is a wicked thing to do to call the brigades ' out on a false alarm. Men have been I killed in accidents through the fire brigades rushing through the streets in response to false alarms. It is bad enough the brigades taking the risk of I accident when they have to. I will give ! you a fortnight to pay the £5. Now, just you take it out of his hide. Very well, replied the boy's father.
