SEIZED DIAMOND THIEF. CAPTURE IN FOG. The Duke of "Manchester described at Mariborough Street Police Court his chase and capture in Jermyn Street W., of an 'alleged diamond thief in the dense fog of a recent date. ■Prisoner was Robert Arthur Seymour White, aged 22, a salesman, of Orchard Road, St. Margaret's, Twickenham. He was remanded on a charge of breaking into the shop of Messrs. Wine and Glass, Ltd., of Jermyn Street, and stealing five diamond and platinum rings valued at £701 10/. Michael Edward Glass said that he was sitting In the chop and heard a smash of glass. .Running out he saw somebody running and two men struggling, one of them being "White. "My window was 'broken," Mr. Glass continued, "and a case of rings worth about £760 was missing. One ring, which" is still missing is worth USX 10/." Mr. Olase produced a brick which, he said, had ibeen thrown through, the window. ■Mr. Horridge, who was instructed by White's father, .appeared for the prisoner. There were questions with regard to White's mind to be Inquired into, he said. The Duke of Manchester, who gave an address at Victoria Street, S.W., said that In the glare of the artificial light through the fog ho caw a man raise his hand. "I heard a crasn as he threw a brick through the window." "The man was not the prisoner. There were two men present. One man ran away -Tip St. James Street, and this boy came up and put his hand through the window and took something and ran away. He got past mc, and I turned and ran after him. "I shouted to a man to 'Stop him.' He held his hands ont, and White dodged and then ran Into him. At that moment I caught up and grabbed White from behind. "As a constable came up I said, 'Look out for CHe Jewels, he has got them.' Then the boy himself pointed to something on the ground, and the constable picked up the jewels." In the dock White seemed a mere schoolboy. He was a little dazed at the proceedings. He wore round his neck a silk scarf with school colours.
