ROAD ON RANGITOTO.
LOCAL BODY MEMBERS' INSPECTION. In the Rangitoto Kiosk yesterday afternoon the members of the Rangitoto Domain Board and visitors from other local bodies assembled for a little refreshment after negotiating the climb to the top. Among the guests present were Messrs. -I. D. Morison, Mayor of Takapuna, and E. Skeates, Mayor of Birkenhead. These gentlemen took the opportunity of congratulating the Domain Board upon the progress of the work now in hand. The preliminary work upon the new road has all been done, i and fair progress has been made with ! the first section of the work. Mr. Mori- ' son. in his remarks, stressed the vain* of Rangitoto as one of Auckland's great scenic 'assets, and predicted for it a great future. Mr. Skeates expressed himself as being thoroughly in favour of the scheme now- being undertaken byprison labour, and hoped that other local bodies would take an interest in the work. Mr. T. La mono, chairman of the hoard, in reply, paid a. tribute to Sir James Parr for bis whole-hearted acceptance of the idea, of a. road to the summit w-hen it was submitted to him by the Rangitoto Domain Board, and forecast ! the completion of the road to tiie beacon in twelve months' time. A motion of appreciation to the Devonport Ferry Company for supplying a steamer for the trip concluded the little function.
'"It is a bad habit to let motorists drive over 30 miles an hour in the city," said -Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., at the .Magistrates' Court to-day. He added: "If we do, in a week they will be going at 50 miles an hour on these smooth concrete roads."
