HAND BLOWN OFF.
ACCIDENT TO QUARRYMAN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. While fixing a gelignite cap to a fuse at Titoki yesterday, a man named Andrew Veauker, met with a serious injury. The charge exploded, with, the result tliat Veauker's right hand was blown off. Mr. Veauker was employed at the Public Works Department's quarry at the junction of the Mangakahia and Wairoa rivers. He was brought in to the Whangarei Public Hospital, and an operation performed. He is reported as progressing favourably.
