MYSTERIOUS BLAZE.
SCHOOL RESIDENCE DESTROYED. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) STRATFORD, this day. A mysterious fire occurred at Toko, about nine miles east of Stratford, at an early hour this morning, when the school residence, outbuildings, garage and a Dodge car were completely destroyed. The house was unoccupied for some days, Mr. Bocock, the teacher, being on holidays in Dunedin, and Mrs. Bocock in Auckland. No one saw the fire start, the only person being aware of the blaze, a fanner named Green, living some distance away, noticing a glare just as the fire burnt itself out. No one was seen near the building, and as it was razed to the ground, there is no indication as to how the outbreak occurred. Mr. S. G. Smith, chairman, and the Rev. Kayll, a member of the Education Board, held a Departmental inquiry this afternoon, but no evidence was elicited which could throw any light on the affair, consequently no finding could be reached.
