HEAVY DAMAGE.
THE BELFAST FIRE. BIG INSURANCES. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The insurance companies affected will lose about £9000 as a result of the fire at the Belfast freezing works on Thursday night. It is estimated that the loss in the case of the building and machinery is 90 per cent, and in the case of the wool 75 per cent. The whole works are insured in the London and Lancashire Office for £116,----000, and the cover over the wool room, which was destroyed, is £7040. The loss on the building and machinery is £6000, the wool damaged is worth £4000, and the loss is £3000. There is some doubt whether Lloyd's Office holds all the insurance on the wool, and the local agents cabled to-day to London for definite information.
