CHASE BY NIGHT.

NEIGHBOURHOOD AROUSED. PRANKS AT PIAKO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) . JIORRINSVILLE, Tuesday. A stransta story comes from Piako (about two miles from Morrinsville) of a chase across a farm at night time, an injury to a pursuer, and the arousing of the neighbourhood. The details of the story are unconfirmed, owing to the reticence of the police and of the farmer roncerned, but that some such occurrence did take place is not denied. According to the story, a young man named George Wilson, employed by Mr. W. Wybourne, went to the milking shed after dark a few evenings ago to get pome cigarettes he had left there. When there he noticed he was not alone, and immediately returned to the house to inform Mr. Wybourne. They both gave chase to the person, who had already taken to his heels, and followed him across a gully, when suddenly Mr. Wilson found the man hiding behind a bush. The man sprang out and struck Mr. Wilson, who fell. Mr. Wybourne, fearing that Mr. Wilson might be seriously hurt, called for assistance from the neighbours, several hurrying!to the scene. By that time, however, there was nothing to be seen of the unwelcome visitor. Fortunately Mr. Wilson's injury was not very serious.
