Other first time items are JJrigro's Serenade, "Mllltons d'Arlequin," and an IntermezzoHawaiian, "Mallnda's Fairy Bower," Weber's "Oberon" overture, with bright marches and other tuneftil items, make up a pro-; gramme or much charm.

Tliorne, a fruitgrower, ot Princes Street, Woolston, to Mr. H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., in the Chrietchureo. Magistrate's Court, after the hearing ot a case in which three lads admitted having raided Mr. Thome's cherry trees. "It's not only the boya who steal from us," he added, "it'e grown-up people, too. We work hard to get the stuff ready, and then we've got to sit up half the night watching for thieves. . . . I'd be obliged if your Worship would make a statement to the reporters about it; that's the only thing I knew that will help us at all." It was useless for him, the Magistrate said, to enter into a long dissertation on the subject, although he sympathised with Mr. Tliorne and other fruitgrowers who had been victimised. "It- is a great pity," lie observed, "that gome people don't realise their obligations to others. Until we reach a more happy state of things,"* he eaid to Mr. Thome, "you had better apply for increased police protection."
