SENTENCE OF DEATH.

SYDNEY, December f>. John Smith, aged IS, was to-day found, riiilty of the murder of Claire Prcrwse, ' aged 17. at Junee, on November 2. The jury brought in a strong recommendation to mercy. Accused was sentenced to death.— (A. md X.Z. Cable.) Smith was a telegraph operator. TTe had been paying his addresses to the girl Prowse. who was a telephonist, and was repulsed. She was attacked with a razor, md rushed into the house where she was hoarding, covered with blood, and died ■ihortly afterwards. The police arrested Smith", who was suffering from two ivounds, one of which was in the temple. A razor was found in his room at the Junee Hotel. Junee is an important rail>vajr junction.
