MEETING OF AUCKLAND COUNCIL.

ROADS AND SIGNS. At last night's meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association Mr. George Henning presided. The Minister of Public Works, in a letter, wrote Matin" that the bad condition of the Rotorua-Taupo Road was ilue to a particularly hard winter. "(.Joed but rough" was the report on the road by the Main Highways Board. In reply t<o a recent request by the association, the Mount Eden Borough Council wrote stating that notice* bearing the words "Xo exit" would bo trected at the entrance to all blind <=t r cets in the borough. The Mount Roskill Road Board intimated that it would act in conjunction with other local bodies in any approved method of indicating blind roads. In a letter received from the North Island Motor Union it was stated 111-lt the Railway Department would not approve of any alteration in ihe regulations requiring drivers to stop before passing over railway crossings. Some motorists, it was pointed out. would ignore safety precautions and take risks if too much was left to individual discretion.

The association's representative on the Main Highways Board. Mr. M. H. Wynyard. submitted a report concerning the board's activities. Tenders would shortly be called for three miles of the Mamaku Hills Road, and later for a further ten miles. The board had agreed to subsidise the unmetalled portions of Lincoln Road. Henderson, at £3 for £1. A similar Eubsidy had been approved for a portion of the Kaimai Road to Taurahga.

The appointment of the following agents selected by the association's service officer, was approved: Rotorua. Mr. W. T. Pakes; Matamata. Mr. E. C. Young; Taurancja, Mr. C. Clinkard; Ngaruawahia, Mr. W. E. Cavanagh; Ruawai, Mr. John Ross.

The service officer was authorised to erect another 250 road signs. He reported that lie had erected 820 signs since he commenced operations.
