NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening, Mr. S. Donaldson ,(Mayor) presiding.

A letter was received from the district telegraph engineer stating that the Department had already given authority for the installation of another telephone box In Broadway.

In reply to a letter from the Tuaknn Town Board it was decided to state that the council did not object to a conference to discuss the present "method of levying and collecting the hospital rate. The Department of Internal Affairs supplied copies of the Dangerous Goods Regulations, 1925. governing cinematograph films, and instructed the council that the regulations woKld be administered by the Department. In the borough engineer's report a hope was expressed that, the street lighting would be completed by Christinas time. Keplylng to a previous inquiry by the council, the superintendent of police at Auckland stated that early reinforcements were expected, and the desirability of placing men on point duty at busy street intersections would be given first consideration.
