SPEEDING IN GREAT WORTH ROAD.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice with interest that a motor cycle sports meeting is to be held on Takapuna racecourse on Saturday next. The inducements offered to the public to attend are: Plenty of thrills, excitement, fast racing, and hair-breadth escapes. Xow sir, why go to Takapuna to see all this, when one can stroll along the Great North Road any time (between tlip reservoir and St. Joseph's Convent) between 6 a.m. and midnight, and see enough "thrills, speeding, and hairbreadth escapes" to satisfy him for a long time, and cheaply, too. But putting joking aside, it is high time that our traffic department paid a little attention to this part. I have lived on this road for the past five years. We used to have peace and quietness, but now, since our good council put down a concrete track, it is unbearable with these road hogs— no silencers on their machines, and throttle open. We have two schools on this road, and the practice of these road hogs is a source of great danger to the children.—l am, etc., SHELLSHOCK.
