STANLEY BAY PLAYGROUND.

COMPLETION OF RECLAMATION ~ PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMME ADOPTED. ' A largely attended and enthusiastic meeting of Stanley Bay residents, held last night in the Mission Hall, decided to adopt a progressive policy of improvements to the park. The chairman, Mr. E. Aldridge. reported that the Harbour Board had completed the reclamation of the area. The original agreement with that body had provided for three feet of filling, or up to 30,000 cubic yards, over the whole area of eight acres for an estimated cost of £2500. Yesterday was the concluding day of the work, and the filling was brimming'lovdr the retaining wall, so that at least four feet depth of 'material, Or about 45,00* cubic yards was. now in the park.. A letter was read from the Harbour Board■ superintendent stating that up to Monday night the work had cost approximately £2000. In addition Mr. Chapman announced the presentation of. a 70-foot flagpole, • with a 12-foot flag and all accessories, of nearly £50 value. He jyas . accorded a hearty; vote of thanks for liis successful endeavours, and gratitude was expressed to the v liberal donors, and also to the workers who had made the flagpole project successful. The firm of New Zealand Roads, Ltd., through their representative, Mr. Wise, offered the. gratuitous services of a tractor, .scarifier and grader to level the area as soon as was practicable. This offer-was received with great applause. Councillor S. Walker conveyed to the meeting the congratulations of the Vauxliall Park Committee, and promised cooperation in any scheme of park developments

The committee of management was largely augmented by enthusiastic volunteers. Several gentlemen were also appointed to consider a building programme with the nucleus of the money in hand, and a committee of experts was nominated to supervise the layout and equipment of the children's area. After discussion it was decided, as soon as the park was sufficiently consolidated, to hold a beacli fair to fur,ther augment the association's funds. Another meeting will be held next Tuesday night.
