POLICE COURT.

A married man, whose name the justices ordered to be suppressed, pleaded guilty to obtaining groceries valued at 4/ and sums of money totalling £1 11/ by means of a valueless cheque. "Chief Detective Cumraings stated that accused was a married man with four children, and was at present in poor circumstances. He had an account at a bank 11 months ago, but at the time he issued the two valueless cheques file account at the bank was nil. Hi» general character was good, and he Had never been in trouble before. Characterising the offence as ..very serious, the presiding justices convictea accused, and ordered him to come up lor sentence if called upon within 12 montns. BY-LAW OFFENDERS. A number of by-law offenders were prosecuted by Sergeant Calwell lor various breaches. , . . n On a charge of dangerous t riving, « bus driver named Charles Goodwill wa fined £5 and costs. Sergeant Calweu stated that defendant was driving h* bus on the Panmure Road on NovemDW 11, and just as he had passed another bus he swerved in again, causing a,com sion. Defendant's explanation was that he had swerved in order to avoid some broken glass on the road. Charged with passing a stationary tram car in Tarnell, Charless Robert, who denied the offence, was fined 10/ auu C °David Samuel Isaacs was convicted and discharged for negligent driving, BW was fined £1 and costs for defects brakes. .
