A FLOATING DOCK.
! FOR AUCKLAND HARBOUR. FURTHER FACILITIES REQUIRED. ' dock is recommended by the Harbour Board's engineer as ' the most desirable method of .improving the docking facilities of the harbour when necessary. Mr. Holdernesß states in his harbour 'development scheme that no further accommodation than that already existing at Calliope Dock and at the slipways, Freeman's Bay, other than the completion of the 200-ton slipway was proposed at present, but in the event of additional docking facilities being required, it would be desirable to provide this in the form of a floating doqk, which could be'conveniently situated in deep water near Kauri Point. The cost of a floating dock of sufficient capacity to take the largest battleship afloat would be approximately,£soo,----000, which was.- considerably less than the cost of a graving dock of similar capacity, which\ would haye the added disadvantage that, it -would'*occupy, valuable land. ■■: ': : ..'■'":""*,';
