CONSPIRACY CHARGE.
KIDNAPPING A GRANDFATHER. A REMARKABLE STORY. SUM OF £55,000 INVOLVED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.* (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, December 1. When Thomas Williams. Geoffrey and Charles Arden were charged with conspiracy to defraud Douglas Arden of moneys and securities prosecuting counsel told an extraordinary story of how the Aniens, aided by Wiiliams, kidnapped their grandfather, aged SI years, in a Loudon street, and drove him in a taxieab to the Gloucester Gate, where he nut his signature to eleven' bills of £5000 each. Counsel explained that there had been some discussion as to the appointment of a receiver under the Lunacy Act, which was done in November. Knowing this the grandsons hatched an ingenious plot by which they offered to sell him a collection of pictures valued at -fiO.OOO. When out under the charge of an aged coachman they induced the latter to go to a bogus address. While he was absent they drove off th • grandfather. The hearing was adjourned.— (A. and N._. Cable.)
