TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.
BIG DAY AT COURT. | MOTORISTS WITHOUT LICENSES. A large number of cases were set down for hearing at the Magistrate's Court to-day in which charges were laid for •breaches of the regulations for traffic and other city .by-laws. The bulk of the cases on this occasion were for failing to produce licenses when called upon. Mr. G. R. Hogan, chief traffic inspector, explained to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., that on one day the officials of the department had stopped 2500 owners of motor vehicles and asked to be shown the drivers' licenses. A number of the people had not their licenses with them, and. were told to call at the office with them, when proceedings would not be taken against- them. • Only those who had not taken out a license had been brought before the court.
Mr. Hunt heard all the cases and then inflicted a fine of 20/ and costs in the following: David Patterson, R. H. Walker, J. Begbie, G. E. Broadbent, M. Cole. V. Dickens, H. Dykes, J. Gissing, L. Other cases dealt with were Norman Davies. for failing to notify change of ownership of a vehicle, fined £2 and costs; Charles Roberts, for passing, a stationary tram, car, £2 and costs; Lester Sinclair, for stopping his motor car within a safety zone, fined £2 and costs; A. J. F. Walker, for failing to obey the signal of a traffic constable ,fined £2 and costs. A. Burton, for dangerous driving, fined £2 and costß; J. B. Ferguson, for cutting a corner, £2 and costs; M. McCarthy, defective brake. £1 and costs; Charles Caddis (Mr. Marshall White), defective brake, 10/ and costs; S. G. Taylor, defective brake, 10/ and costs. In one or two cases defendants Avere simply ordered to pay the costs for failing to produce their licenses.
