MR. H. HEMUS.
A BENEFIT CONCERT. Many friends of Mr. H. Hemus were present last evening at the complimentary benefit performance of "'Mr. Pirn Passes By" (A. A. Milne), by the Grafton Shakespeare and Dramatic Club, in the Grafton Library lecture hall. Mr. Hemus, who has always , taken a great interest in music and elocution, has been, very ill for some time, and it was a kindly thought to arrange a concert in recognition of his services. He was one of the original members of t'.ic Grafton Club; and was president for some years. The play was very much enjoyed, the performers all showing that they had a complete understanding of the characters which they portrayed. The- part of Mr. George Marden, J.P., was taken by Mr. Ernest Blair, while Mrs. Frank Turner played Olivia (his wife). Miss Rosie Kidson was quite at home in the role of Dinah (the neice), and Mrs. E. R. Pilkington as Lady Morden (his aunt). The part of Carraway Pirn was left in the capable hands of Z»lr. W. H. Graham. Mr. Rex FairMirn played Brian Strange, and Miss C. Meale Anne. The performance will be repeated thie evening, when it is certain that those who were unable to be present last evening will attend and assist in helping Mr. Hemus.
