It is learned on the highest authority that Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, the Premier, will carry on. go before Parliament and demand a vote of confidence mi the high protection issue. Seven further alterations in the returns from the general election have occurred. With three seats still in doubt, the indications now are that the state of parties as compared to 1921 is as follows: — 1921. 1025. Conservatives 51 Hβ Liberals 117 ]no Progressives (Farmers) 65 23 Independent and Labour 2 3 Doubtful 3 Totals 23.5 240 On these figures, the Liberals can only retain office with the support of the 23 Progressive, two Labour, and one Independent members. These, like the Liberals, favour a low tariff. The "Montreal Gazette" publishes an item from Quebec to the effect that there will be a session of the House of Commons within three months, according to a message from Mr. Ernest La Polnte (Minister of Jiutk-e). — [Renter.)
