LAWN TENNIS.
WAIUKU CLUB. OFFICIAL OPENING. The official opening of the Waiuku Tennis Club took place on Saturday, there being a large attendance of members and visitors. The courts were formally opened by Mr. A. W Ohlson (president), who mentioned that the membership now totalled s>, and a very prosperous season was looked for. Tae president drew attention to the fact, that the secretary. Mr. H. B. Ball, was leaving the district, and paid a high tribute to the manner in which he had carried, out his duties. On bebalf of members. Mr. Onlson presented to Mr. and Mrs. Ball a handsome oak tray, suitably inscribed, as a token or the esteem In which they were held by mem tiers of the club. The courts were then declared open. Miss Arkle havinj; the honour of hitting the first ball over the net. PAPAKURA CLUB. The above olnß held Its opening day on Saturday in the presence of a large number of visitors and members. The president ol the club (Rev. W. C. Wood) in a neat speecn pxpressed his pleasure at the progress marie by the club owing to the growth of the town, thereby bringing in more players. He recalled, the time when Papakura Tennis Club only had two grass courts aprainst the present five hard courts, which woiTTH unrdly accommodate the club membership. The speaker expressed the hope that the cluli would ajrain win both the Manukan Tennis Association trophies (senior and junior) as they did last year. The patron, Mr. E. D. McLennan, congratulated the clno on Its progress. Miss Wood served the first hall over the net (a real (rood serve), ana the president formally declared the courts open for the coming season. Afternoon tea was sprved hy the ladies, a rery enjoyable afternoon being spent.
