INTOXICATED MOTORISTS

PROCESS OF WEEDING OUT.

YOUNG MAN FINED r£lo

LICENSE ALSO CANCELLED.

Drivers of motor cars should exercise great care when they become friendly with Bacchus, otherwise they will make the acquaintance of Jlr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who has instituted a new rule of cancelling licenses as well as imposing fines or sentences of imprisonment. Only last week an intoxicated motorist was* fined £25 and lost his ticket for 12 months.

This morning, at the Police Court, Arnold Vaughan Sutton (28) appeared when he pleaded guilty to being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car in Wyndham Street.

It was stated by Senior Sergeant Edwards that accused was found by Constable Brady at 5.45 p.m. on Saturday seated in a motor car. He was practically drunk, and when questioned by the constable stated that he sat in the car to sober up, intending to drive the car home afterwards. The car belonged to accused employer. Sutton was a motor car salesman. Nothing was known by the police against Sutton, although on his own admission he had been fined £10 in another city three years ago for n similar offence. Accused was a married man.

Mr. Hunt: It is time you left cars alone, and looked for another job. You will be fined £10 and your license will he cancelled for six months. Ofeacourse, there is a little difference in this case from others, as you were not driving the car. This is the only way to weed you men out.
