LICENSING POLL.

(Published by Arrangement.)

AN APPEAL.

To Women of Moderate Views, — On November 4 you will be asked to record your vote in favour of one of three propositions — "Continuance," "State Control," or "Prohibition." These three propositions resolve themselves into two, iracause "Continuance" and "State Control" are practically one, in opposition to Prohibition. There is nothing beautiful or good connected with the taking of alcoholic liquor. It affects the welfare of women and children more seriously than anything else to-day. It is not only destructive of the comfort and happiness of many, a horne —it is destructive of life itself. On the other hand, the prohibition of alcohol as a beverage would make room for much that is good and beautiful. It would bring comfort and happiness to many; it. would promote the health and general welfare of the mothers and children, giving the little ones a chance to have what is best in lifeProhibition seeks the welfare and liberty of our children —born and unborn a nd shows a true reverence for life. Civilisation slowly, very slowly, advances. But to-day we look back with shame on the little slaves of the factory and coal mines, and feel proud that child labour has been abolished; women saw that vision of better things to be, and unselfishly gave their best till the nation set them free. We feel that the women of New Zealand have but to see the newvision of our "homes and our country set free from degradation and basking in the sunshine of happiness and plenty, to vote and strive for Prohibition. Cross out the two top lines. We are. yours sincerely, H. 'M. NORTHCROFT (Dr. Hilda Northcroft, President Auckland Branch Nat. Council of "Women). JESSIE HELEN GUNSON (Lady 'GunsonV. JI A.YERILL (Bishopscourt, Pres. Auckland Jlothcrs" Union). ANNIE RHODES (Mr. Chas. Rhodes). AGNES JI. FERGUSON (Jlrs. Alex. JI. Ferguson). L H. WILSON (Jlrs. W. R. Wilson, Dom. Com. Girl Guides). Auckland, October 29.
