MR. R. W. SMITH AT RAETIHI.

RAETIHI, this day.
One of the largest political meetings held in Raetihi eventuated last night, when Mr. R. W. Smith spoke to a crowded audience, fully 400 people being present* The Mayor (Mr. Sandford) was in the chair. Mr. Smith dealt with many subjects pertaining to the political situation, and from the commencement of his speech denounced extreme Labour. He wns particularly anxious to see Sir J. G*. Ward returned in order to assist Mr. Coates in forming a newMinistry. He would vote against Labour on a no-confidence motion, but in the event of Labour bringing down sane measures would vote with them. He wanted a free hand at the present juncture. Many questions were asked, but some were ruled by the chairman as being personal. The meeting concluded by a vote of thanks and the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
