FINAL STAGES OF CAMPAIGN.
ONLY TWO DAYS TO ELECTION. A RECORD POLL EXPECTED. With only two days left before the taking of the poll, the election atmosphere is tense with the final throes of the struggle. For the past few days there has been an increasing bitterness in the speeches of some of the candidates, and there was a dramatic development to-day when two informations under the election laws were laid against the president of a certain association for alleged breaches of the law, and notice was given of the issue of a writ for alleged defamation. The battle is raging fiercely over the freehold-usehold issue, there being challenges, assertions, denials and much heated argument as to what "usehold" means, Or does not mean. To the promulgators of the policy it means one thing; to its opponents it means quite another—according to their platform opinions, at all events. There were comparatively few meetings on Saturday night, but about twenty are announced for to-night, including the big meeting at the Town Hall, which is to be addressed by the Prime Minister.
