ROYAL OAK SCHOOL.
* THE OPENING CEREMONY. The official opening of the enlarged Royal Oak primary school at Rose Road, took place on Saturday afternoon before an exceptionally larjre gathering of visitors and children. The building was gaily decorated with bunting, and the numerous stalls inside were stacked with goods. Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, performed the ceremony, and in a brief address, referred to the need which had previously existed for a larger school than that of the four rooms that used to house 200 children. He thanked all who had assisted in the matter of securing the grant of nearly £10,000 to erect the additional six classrooms, and wished the school continued success. Mr. Jordan, Labour candidate for Manukau. was also present and gave a short address. Other speakers were Mrs. Ferner, member of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr. Popple, chairman of the School Committee. The proceedings were followed by a bazaar organised to raise funds for the laying out of the school grounds. There was a ready demand for the articles offering, with the result that before the afternoon had waned the stalls had been practically sold out. The Onehunga Municipal Band was in attendance during the afternoon. There will be a dance in the school buildings to-night. —-'tj, i ■
