RIFLE SHOOTING
AKARANA CLUB. Members of Akarana Defence Rifle Club commenced competitions on Saturday for trophies presented by Mr. T. Elliott (A section), Mr. W. Powell (B section), and Mr. C. C. Tuely (C section). Ten shots were fired at 600 and 700 yards. Variable light and tricky wind upset tho calculations of many competitors. The three top men in each section take points 8, 2, 1 towards the trophies. Solid- silver spoons were won by Riflemen J. Atkinson. J. R. Draffin, and C. The first sboot of the second series for trophies presented by Messrs. G. S. Kent and .T. Stanton, was fired by members of the City and Suburbs Club at Penrose on Saturday. The conditions generally were favourable.' bnt fluctuations in the strength of the wind were upsetting. A. J. Pieterson won the A grade with a score of 00, but Verrall and Patrick finished only one point behind. The B grade competition was won by Crnddock, with a score of 85 and a handicap of 3.
