Early in the season Taranaki were beaten 25 —11 by i Wellington, but since then the reps, of : this province have greatly improved their game, and their win against North Auckland yesterday, and the fact that they ; will be strengthened to-morrow by the \ addition of the All Black player B*ro\*i. i indicate that the team is one which must |be regarded by the Aucklanders as ■ capable of putting up a first-class game. j Taranaki has twice met Wanganui this season, drawing the first and winning ; the second by a point; a loss by a point | against Bay of Plenty, a win by a point I against North Auckland, and a loss ; IS —12 against Auckland at New Plymouth shows the strength of the side. ' From the reports of the games it is ; gathered that the Taranaki backs at I times are brilliant, and that the forwards are on a par with those of North I Auckland. Should the match to-morrow ! happen to be an occasion when every - j thing goes right for the visitors, then I even the best that Auckland can produce. ;as represented by the team selected for | this match, will have their work cut i out. Taranaki has a reputation for springing surprises at Auckland, but it will be a great surprise to local followers j of the game if the play is not more bright and open than any we have had this i season. As a curtain-raiser to the rep. match, the senior College Rifles and Grammar teams will play a semi-final of the Pollard Cup competition. The Taranaki team will arrive from Whangarei this afternoon.
